My Nutrition Philosophy

My nutrition philosophy/approach is centered on health, not weight.
I do understand that some individuals benefit from weight loss or weight gain, depending on their personal needs and diagnoses. However, I'm not a weight-centric provider; I'm a weight-neutral or weight-inclusive provider. I consider my patients' labs, symptoms, relationships with food, and their body and quality of life essential to good health.

Your weight plays a part in your overall health, but it is not the sole indicator of good/poor health. Unfortunately, American society and the healthcare community in general often target weight as the indicator of health because it is more easily manipulated than other factors such as genetics, environment, age, gender, and food availability.
I'm passionate about ending weight stigma, and I spent five years creating a dissertation and a quantitative research study on this topic. This does not mean that I am against weight loss, but it does mean that I treat every body with respect, regardless of size, and there are times when I will not recommend weight loss.
Your body is the vessel that gets you through this life - it is essential to respect and take care of it, regardless of the number on the scale! Everybody deserves to have a healthy relationship with their body and food.
This core belief will be evident throughout my blog posts, which will feature evidence-based nutrition information.

While I am a nutrition expert (a registered dietitian nutritionist) with over 15 years of clinical experience, I continue to learn daily, and I encourage you to learn with me! I hope you enjoy my blog posts, which will discuss various aspects of the numerous diets available to us in the United States.
Welcome to Informed Bites!
